Pillar Innovations is now accepting applications for a full-time Automation Project Engineer.  As a Automation Project Engineer, the general role is to be a liaison between the Project Manager and the technical disciplines involved in a project.  The Project Engineer may also be the primary point of contact for the customer.  This individual will have the ability to represent Pillar Innovations out in the field, assist in the interpretation of job designs, ensure the jobs are constructed according to the project plans and assist with project controls to include budgeting, planning/scheduling, designing, and programming.

 

The Automation Project Engineer may also have the ability to sell all product lines within Pillar and therefore must have a thorough understanding of all of the Company’s products and service capabilities.  The Automation Project Engineer will report to the Morgantown Automation Manager and will work primarily out of the Morgantown location.

               

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical and control system design solutions based on engineering principles and involvement in presentation of the solution to customer.
  • Provide technical support and on-site troubleshooting and repair for customers
  • Resolve operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases
  • Responsible for project success whether as a project leader or as part of a project team
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives are observed for all work completed
  • Support sales team in pre-sales technical concept and budgeting activities
  • Interpret client requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget
  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls
  • Create and finalize designs to meet project requirements
  • Create accurate BOMs (Bill of Materials)
  • Define equipment and parts from external suppliers
  • Conduct cost and time estimation
  • Oversee project workflow and support internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery of projects, expected quality, and allotted budget
  • Electrical, software design of customized solutions including manufacturing automation and safety systems
  • Able to maintain project scope and identify project creep
  • Support the manufacture, build and validation of systems which include pneumatics, servos, VFD’s, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, pushbuttons and robotic integration
  • Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings
  • Ability to architect programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile
  • Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standards
  • Commission customized products and systems onsite at customer facilities
  • Modifies systems upon customer’s request and documents the amendments accordingly
  • Provide high quality pre-sales, design-in and post-sales technical support to customer

Qualifications

  • A.S. in Industrial Automation, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Applicants must be a citizen of the United States with a valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in process control and automation
  • Proficient with MS Office productivity software
  • Proficient with reading and creating CAD drawings using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong working knowledge with Allen Bradley PLCs and RSLogix 5000, 500
  • Working experience and knowledge with Omron, Mitsubishi, and/or Siemens PLCs
  • HMI / OIT Development experience with Rockwell and/or Wonderware
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems
  • Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals
  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to work independently and in team environments
  • Proactive, resourceful and highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment
  • Ability to balance multiple projects
  • Good understanding of mechanical principals is a plus
  • Travel as required (40% at times) to support projects – not typical to be out of town for more than 1-2 weeks at a time
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and adjust to changing business needs to include possible work involving emergency call-out, extended hours and some out-of-town and overnight work

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment
  • This position requires the completion of a thorough background and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. In accordance with Pillar Innovation’s Drug and Alcohol policy, employees are required to participate in random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as requested.
