    Pillar Innovations is now accepting applications and resumes’ for a full-time Machine Design and Optimization Engineer.  The Machine Design and Optimization Engineer will be responsible for providing business solutions through developing, designing and improving new and existing machinery, and through the integration of systems and products, while following accepted industry standards and practices.  This position will support systems and components within various industries that may include, but are not limited to:  Automotive, Energy, Manufacturing, Lumber, Agriculture, Defense, etc..  This position is customer-driven and candidates must be flexible and willing to work extended hours.  This position will require travel to customer sites with some over-night/out-of-town stay.     


    The Machine Design and Optimization Engineer will be based out of the Pillar Innovations’ office, located in Grantsville, Maryland.  Areas of operations include, but are not limited to:  Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and New Jersey.

    • Design new machines, equipment and mechanisms to serve the goals and expectations of customers
    • Redesign existing machines, equipment and mechanisms to serve the goals and expectations of customers 
    • Assess customer needs and design, create and develop value-added solutions through engineering and design
    • Perform testing, research and precisely analyze data to ensure successful product development
    • Supervise and support the product development and installation teams
    • Identify potential value-added sales opportunities to increase company revenue
    • Provide technical and product support to sales team and to customer


    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering Discipline
    • 2-5 years of experience in designing and/or modifying machinery, equipment, systems and fixtures for optimization
    • Experience in the following industries preferred but not required: automotive, manufacturing, machinery, lumber, defense
    • Experience in the use and development of robotics and end of arm tooling
    • Experience and knowledge of automation or industrial programming
    • Experience with the use and development of conveyance and assembly systems preferred but not required 
    • Experience and knowledge of machining and specialized machinery
    • Must be team-oriented and willing to participate in team-based and cross-functional problem solving
    • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively and professionally communicate with co-workers and customers
    • Possess a working knowledge of a broad range of engineering software and its functionality
    • Able to work a flexible schedule and adjust to changing business needs to include possible work involving emergency call-out, extended hours and some out-of-town and overnight work
