    Pillar is currently on the lookout for Industrial Controls Engineer to join our Morgantown, WV team. The Industrial Controls Engineer will provide turn-key automated solutions specializing in custom automation, robotics, tooling and testing equipment. This position will be based out of the Morgantown office, and individuals will have the opportunity of visiting different customer sites daily. We are looking for individuals who get excited about tackling a different challenge every day and are willing to adapt based on the needs of our customers. The Industrial Controls Engineer will report directly to the Automation Manager.



    • Design, develop, test, and support controls systems which include pneumatics, servos, VFD’s, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, pushbuttons and robotic integration
    • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls
    • Create and finalize designs to meet project requirements
    • Create electrical, software design of customized solutions including manufacturing automation and safety systems
    • Create accurate BOMs (Bill of Materials)
    • Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings
    • Commission customized products and systems onsite and at customer facilities
    • Interpret client requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget
    • Provide high quality pre-sales, design-in and post-sales technical support to customer
    • Maintain project scope and identify project creep
    • Architect programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile
    • Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standard
    • Define equipment and parts from external suppliers
    • Conduct cost and time estimation
    • Support sales team in pre-sales technical concept and budgeting activities
    • Resolve operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases
    • Ensure all relevant safety objectives are observed for all work completed
    • Performs other duties as assigned 


    • Applicants must be a citizen of the United States with a valid driver’s license
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in process control and automation
    • Proficient with MS Office, AutoCAD Electrical
    • Strong working knowledge with Allen Bradley PLCs and RSLogix 5000,500
    • Working experience and knowledge with Omron, Mitsubishi PLCs
    • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems
    • Able to efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals
    • Critical thinking with exceptional problem solving skills
    • Able to work independently and in team environments with minimal supervison
    • Proactive, resourceful and highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment
    • Abie to balance multiple projects
    • Abie to architect programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile
    • Travel as required (up to 40% at times) to support projects – not typical to be out of town for more than 1-2 weeks at a time
    • Able to work a flexible schedule and adjust to changing business needs to include possible work involving emergency call-out, extended hours and some out-of-town and overnight work
    • Willing to undergo a thorough background and drug screening process
