The Corporate Headquarters are located in Grantsville, MD with several offices throughout the country.

 

The general role of the Industrial Programmer II – Engineering & Automation is to provide automation programming for a wide range of projects as they progress from concept to installation. The projects vary greatly and consist of custom electromechanical equipment, control panels, robotics, vision systems, drives, etc. This position will direct and supervise other Engineering Personnel as assigned. This individual will work in conjunction with technicians, engineers, project managers, and customers as assigned. The work will be performed at customer sites, and in the shop and office as needed.

 

This individual possesses an advanced understanding of industrial controls, computers, and networking and requires a willingness for leadership and hands-on work in the shop or field. This position must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include travel with overnight stays and overtime as needed.

 

The Industrial Programmer II will report to a Programmer, Senior Engineer, Project Manager, or other Management as assigned and works primarily out of the Grantsville location.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and perform SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) development
  • Lead and perform PLC and HMI programming (ex. RS Logix 500/5000, Studio 5000, etc.), commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting on machines, production lines, conveyor systems, etc.
  • Recognize and pursue additional business opportunities with new and existing customers
  • Integrate various instrumentation such as pressure sensors, load cells, flow meters, etc.
  • Understand the scope of work and be able to communicate parameters with customers
  • Recognize and recommend improvements and enhancements to customers
  • Recognize and immediately communicate design changes to Engineers and Project Management that are not included in the Scope of Work or active Change Orders
  • Work safely in proximity to a variety of voltages such as 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, single phase and 3-phase
  • Interpret electrical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products
  • Configure controls components such as VFDs, servo drives, machine vision systems, robot controllers, field IO racks, etc.
  • Create OEM manuals, documentation, SOPs etc.
  • Conduct operator training and technical instruction for users/customers
  • Collaborate with customers as needed to identify and solve issues
  • Follow quality control standards and check lists
  • Create basic bids on projects as assigned
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and updated technology
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide technical expertise for a variety of projects
  • Assign, oversee, review, and provide feedback to other technicians and programmers on work assignments
  • Verify that end products meet the project scope, budget, and needs of customers
  • Communicate with customers to maintain relationships and provide support and networking opportunities
  • Facilitate problem solving and constructive communication through meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Manage and supervise assigned personnel and ensure effective performance management

What You'll Bring

  • 6+ years’ relevant programming work experience
  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess relevant programming certifications or coursework preferred
  • Advanced proficiency with personal computers to include Microsoft Office Suite, setup, configuration, networking, IP Addresses, etc.
  • Active as a customer point of contact
  • Proficient with PLC and HMI software such as Rockwell Automation RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, and Ignition required
  • Possesses a strong understanding of overall industrial systems, processes, and control methods
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and define scope of work
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to think outside the box and think critically to program in unique situations
  • Ability to understand cause and effect in a variety of processes
  • Willingness to maintain and obtain additional licensure and certifications as needed
  • Possess electrical aptitude
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work
  • Proficient with reading and interpreting manuals and electrical drawings required
  • Must be willing to attend training and remain updated regarding industry standards
  • Ability to understand and interpret the scope of work for specific tasks
  • Ability to follow work direction and prioritize assigned tasks
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations, graphing, and scaling accurately
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to stretch current abilities to learn new skills

Working Conditions

  • Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Perform work on site in industrial locations with occasional underground and/or at heights
