Position Overview

Welcome to the role of Automation Controls Technician II – Engineering & Automation! In this position, you will provide valuable automation support for a diverse range of projects, from concept to installation. These projects encompass custom electromechanical equipment, control panels, robotics, and vision systems. You'll collaborate closely with engineers and project managers, both on-site at customer locations and in our shop and office facilities as required.

 

This individual possesses a general understanding of electrical principles and requires an aptitude and willingness to lead and provide hands-on work in the shop or field. This position must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include travel with overnight stays and overtime as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Lead installation of conduit and wire, tubing, sensors, etc.
  • Wire a variety of electrical control panels, motors, and other devices
  • Perform calibrations on various instrumentation such as pressure sensors, load cells, flow meters, etc.
  • Work safely with a variety of voltages such as 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, single phase and 3-phase
  • Interpret electrical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products
  • Configure controls components
  • Ensure that materials, components, and tools for projects are properly staged
  • Properly use manuals for proper installation, programming, and troubleshooting of components
  • Provide troubleshooting to follow a problem to the source and solve the issue
  • Ensure installed products meet quality and scope expectations
  • Follow quality control standards and check lists
  • Learn to recognize and communicate design changes to Engineers and Project Management that are not included in the Scope of Work or active Change Orders
  • Train and mentor Industrial Automation Controls Tech I personnel
  • Provide feedback for performance reviews as needed

Working Conditions

  • Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
  • Sit, talk, listen, observe, read, write, and type
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Perform work on site in industrial locations with occasional underground and/or at heights

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years’ experience in electrical, controls, and automation preferred
  • Possess High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • MSHA Electrical card preferred
  • Entered or enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship program
  • Willingness to obtain Electrical Journeyman License in MD or WV
  • Willingness to maintain and obtain additional licensure and certifications as needed
  • Possess electrical aptitude and willingness to perform hands on work
  • Experience reading and interpreting manuals and electrical drawings required
  • Strong knowledge of NEC (National Electric Code) and other electrical Standards
  • Must be willing to attend training and remain updated regarding industry standards
  • Ability to understand and interpret scope of work for specific tasks
  • Ability to follow work direction and prioritize assigned tasks
  • Able to competently use a multimeter
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a team
  • Working knowledge of personal computers to include Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to stretch current abilities to learn new skills
  • Aptitude for leadership preferred
  • Willingness to work underground and at heights as needed
