Position Overview

Welcome to the role of Sandblaster - Fabrication & Machining. In this role, you will effectively utilize various hand and power tools to remove surface contaminants, and clean and prepare a variety of equipment, machinery, and structures for painting. Techniques and methods will be directed according to project specifications, customer and product requirements, formal training, and oral instructions. 

 

This position is physically demanding and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Safely and efficiently operate assigned equipment
  • Read, understand, and accurately execute work orders and quality assurance (QA) standards per job requirements
  • Sandblast assemblies per industry standards, work orders, specifications, and other instructions
  • Identify and communicate when additional structures are needed to safely perform duties
  • Assist in erecting needed structures for projects, such as scaffolding, rigging, ladders, man and scissor lifts in a manner consistent with safety procedures
  • Secure work pieces to safely perform job functions
  • Monitor machine functions during operation to maintain safety standards
  • Perform quality checks during production to ensure parts/pieces meet tolerance requirements
  • Follow proper procedures when defective parts are discovered
  • Monitor and assist plant operations in accordance with company policies and plant standard operating procedures
  • Perform any general work or other assignments necessary to ensure safe, clean, and efficient shop operations
  • Obtain Competent Operator Certification and safely operate the overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of shop tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
  • Assist with organizing materials and supplies for jobs
  • Communicate and work effectively with shop personnel, supervisors, and management to achieve project goals

 

Working Conditions

  • Stand for long periods of time, talk, hear, read, and write
  • Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms, kneel, lay, climb ladders, and/or scaffolding.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Work both inside and outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Breathe effectively while wearing a respirator and face mask
  • Wear protective coveralls in a variety of harsh weather conditions

What You'll Bring

  • Previous relevant experience preferred
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing 
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, possess a positive attitude, and be willing to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to use basic measuring devices such as tape measures
  • Possess knowledge of metal plate types (steel, aluminum, stainless, galvanized, etc.), sizes, and shapes (beams, channels, angles, pipe, flat bar, etc.) preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Experience with use of an overhead crane and forklift preferred
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and prioritize competing work assignments
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test
  • Valid driver’s license required
