Position Overview

Are you someone who values safety, enjoys working outdoors, and wants to play a critical role in protecting both workers and the public? As a Traffic Control Flagger I – Fiber Optics, you’ll be on the front lines of job site safety, helping create and maintain a secure work zone by monitoring and directing the flow of traffic around fiber optic construction areas. In this active and important role, you’ll be the eyes and ears on the ground—identifying hazards, staying alert to your surroundings, and ensuring everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.

 

You’ll become familiar with reading traffic control plans, using signaling devices, and following safety protocols and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. What You'll Do

  • Safely perform work along roadways by maintaining appropriate positioning for visibility
  • Learn how to direct traffic safely through work zones by properly setting up and tearing down signaling devices such as road signs, barriers, cones, etc.
  • Learn and become aware of safety regulations and guidelines related to traffic control operations
  • Complete training on emergency procedures such as proper response to accidents, incidents, and hazardous situations, including how to communicate with emergency responders and assist with traffic management during emergencies
  • Safely operate a vehicle with attached trailer to transport flagging materials between locations
  • Learn standard flagging techniques and signals such as handheld flags, paddles, etc.

Working Conditions

  • Walk/use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl/kneel
  • Work outdoors in various harsh weather conditions
  • Walk long distances
  • Stand for extended periods
  • Lift up to 65 pounds without assistance

What You'll Bring

  • No prior experience necessary
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • ATSSA Flagger Certification preferred or ability to obtain within 60 days
  • General construction and/or flagging experience preferred
  • Possess awareness of basic traffic control safety and best practices preferred
