Position Overview

 

Are you an experienced automation professional ready to take on exciting, hands-on projects from concept to completion? Pillar Innovations' Engineering & Automation group is seeking an Industrial Automation Programmer II to play a key role in designing, programming, and deploying advanced automation systems across a wide range of industries. In this role, you’ll use your expertise in Rockwell or Siemens PLC and HMI programming (with platforms like RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, Simatic S7, and WinCC) to develop and troubleshoot automation solutions for machines, conveyor systems, production lines, and more.

 

You’ll work in close collaboration with engineers, technicians, and project managers, both in the field and at our shop, to interpret electrical schematics, configure control components such as VFDs, servo drives, vision systems, robot controllers, and field I/O racks, and ensure systems are fully tested and commissioned to meet customer needs. What You'll Do

  • Lead and perform SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) development
  • Lead and perform PLC and HMI programming (ex. RS Logix 500/5000, Studio 5000, etc.), commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting on machines, production lines, conveyor systems, etc.
  • Recognize and pursue additional business opportunities with new and existing customers
  • Integrate various instrumentation such as pressure sensors, load cells, flow meters, etc.
  • Understand the scope of work and be able to communicate parameters with customers
  • Recognize and recommend improvements and enhancements to customers
  • Recognize and immediately communicate design changes to Engineers and Project Management that are not included in the Scope of Work or active Change Orders
  • Work safely in proximity to a variety of voltages such as 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, single phase and 3-phase
  • Interpret electrical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products
  • Configure controls components such as VFDs, servo drives, machine vision systems, robot controllers, field IO racks, etc.

  • Walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb ladders and stairs; crawl; kneel
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be safety and customer-focused, without exception

What You'll Bring

  • 6+ years’ relevant programming work experience
  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess relevant programming certifications or coursework preferred
  • Advanced proficiency with personal computers to include Microsoft Office Suite, setup, configuration, networking, IP Addresses, etc.
  • Active as a customer point of contact
  • Proficient with PLC and HMI software such as Rockwell Automation RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, and Ignition required
  • Possesses a strong understanding of overall industrial systems, processes, and control methods
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license required
